“Wolpe and her team milk every ounce of joy embedded in its verse, and turn out a swiftly paced exercise in light, summer comedy.”

OTHELLO – Colorado Shakespeare Festival – Starring Peter Macon as Othello and Geoff Kent as Iago *****

In her directorial debut with the CSF, Lisa Wolpe leads a sterling cast through a thoughtful, nuanced and heartbreaking take on the text. The production brilliantly balances themes of race, class and politics with a central focus on the perils of jealousy and suspicion. Shakespeare’s psychological case study from the Elizabethan Age comes to vivid life thanks to subtle staging, artful lighting and sound design and, most of all, lead performances that bring a stirring depth and pathos to the central characters.http://www.dailycamera.com/entertainment/ci_28454499/colorado-shakespeare-festival-othello-theater-review

My Solo Show – “Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender”  – offering a unique celebration of the enchanting power of cross-gender Shakespeare. My work speaks toward liberation from the “gender box” of expectations. This show continues its journey around the planet, with recent appearances at the Shakespeare in Prisons Conference at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, in support of that wonderful group of educators and uplifters, and in Los Angeles as a kickoff event for the Shakespeare Association of America at the Westin Bonaventure for a brilliant group of scholars gathering there. I’ve toured to many cities including NYC at H.E.R.E., Provincetown Women’s Theater Festival, Los Angeles (Whittier College, The Miles Playhouse, Skylight Theater, UCLA), SpringWorks Festival, Stratford Ontario; Vancouver, B.C.; DePaul University, Chicago, Hope College, MI, Richmond Shakespeare Company, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Stratford-Upon-Avon; The Rose Playhouse, U.K.; Orlando Shakespeare Theater, FL, New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane University, and more.

Join us for a magical theatrical experience as we celebrate Earth Day Weekend with this year’s Shakespeare in Yosemite, a fully-staged, free, 90-minute production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Yosemite National Park. April 18-22, 2018 at UC Merced and in the Park and various venues. The play has been adapted especially for its unique location by Shakespeare scholars Professor Katherine Steele Brokaw from UC Merced and Professor Paul Prescott from the University of Warwick.
