Lisa specializes in adapting and directing Shakespeare with a keen eye on gender, race, and sociopolitical power.  She is a pioneer in non-traditonal casting, and has directed dozens of gender-bent adaptations of classical plays, including three Shakespeare productions for Prague Shakespeare Company (Richard II, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the upcoming reverse-gender Taming of the Shrew productions that she is directing for both PSC and Great River Shakespeare Festival in Minnesota).

Lisa was the Founding Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company from 1993-2016, and she has guest directed at California Shakespeare, Colorado Shakespeare, Shakespeare and Company, Sedona Shakespeare, and many universities including NYU, USC, UCLA, Boston University, and UC Boulder.
